Slouch socks are long, soft socks knitted with a relaxed, non-gripping leg. Instead of a tight elastic band holding them in place, they're designed to be pushed down and “scrunched” so the fabric gathers in loose folds around the ankle and calf. How to scrunch them properly

There's no single right way, but this is the quickest route to the classic look: pull the sock all the way up, then push it down from the top in stages so the fabric folds onto itself in two or three soft gathers. Don't roll it — rolling creates a tight band and kills the relaxed effect. If the folds slide too low during the day, one tug and a re-scrunch takes seconds.

What makes a good slouch sock?

• A genuinely relaxed cuff. If the top grips like a normal sock, it will never slouch properly — the leg needs to be knitted loose on purpose.
